Matt holds a Bachelor of Science and PhD in Chemistry from the University of Birmingham, UK. His PhD and Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Canterbury reflected his passion for biopolymers, focusing on protein binding interactions and the biological response of modified peptides and protease inhibitors.

Matt founded CertusBio, a New Zealand start‑up delivering process analyser technology to the dairy industry to improve efficiency, sustainability, and quality. Building on technology acquired from Lincoln Agritech, he successfully raised funding to transform a biosensor concept into a viable business.
