Abdolabbas Jafari

BSc, MSc, PhD

Abbas works at the intersection of engineering, agriculture, and environmental science, advancing sustainable agriculture and food systems while reducing environmental impact.

He holds a PhD in Agricultural Engineering (Biosystems Engineering) and applies computer vision, machine learning, and data modelling to precision agriculture. His current research uses Raman spectroscopy and chemometrics to address challenges such as plant metabolite analysis, early disease detection, and fibre quality assessment.

Abbas has led government and industry‑funded projects, collaborating with partners in New Zealand and globally. He has supervised MSc and PhD students in applying image processing to agricultural problems and contributes to the field as Associate Editor of the New Zealand Journal of Horticulture and Crop Sciences and reviewer for leading journals.

Focus areas:

  • Computer vision and image processing in agriculture
  • Machine learning, data analysis, and modelling
  • Raman spectroscopy and chemometrics
