Matt holds a Bachelor of Science and PhD in chemistry from the University of Birmingham, UK. Reflecting his strong passion for developing novel biopolymers, Matt’s PhD and Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Canterbury focused on studying protein binding interactions and subsequent biological response of chemically modified peptides and protease inhibitors associated with common diseases.
Throughout his career, Matt has demonstrated a deep understanding of forming partnerships to solve commercial challenges. He is the founder of CertusBio, a New Zealand-based start-up delivering novel process analyser technology to the dairy industry, driving processing efficiency, sustainability, and quality. Acquiring technology from Lincoln Agritech with pre-seed investment funding, he successfully raised $2M to transform a novel biosensor concept into a viable business, developing a Minimum Viable Product and launching paid trials through a ‘sensor-as-a-service’ business model.
