Adam is a Senior Scientist at Lincoln Agritech’s Hamilton office, joining in late 2022 after ten years at the University of Waikato where he founded and led the Waikato Environmental Geochemistry group. His research, building on a Rutherford Discovery Fellowship (2017–2022), focuses on the effects of climate change on freshwater systems.
His interest in subsurface environments began with undergraduate studies of groundwater food webs beneath the Canterbury Plains, followed by a PhD in aqueous geochemistry at the University of Birmingham and postdoctoral research in groundwater geochemistry at UNSW.
With more than 60 publications and an extensive collaborative network, Adam is advancing soil, water, and climate science in Aotearoa New Zealand. Current highlights include leading a five‑year, $10m MBIE programme on rising CO₂ and its impact on Waikato River water quality and algal dynamics, as well as frontline research on the invasive gold clam (Corbicula fluminea), which poses significant risks to freshwater ecosystems and drinking‑water supplies.
